I do not have the high-pressure life that I have had in the past, but lately I have constantly been behind in what needs doing. Can anyone relate to my issue? I call it an “issue,” but honestly it is a big problem that has been weighing on my heart. I had about ten days of everything that could go wrong go wrong which added to me being more behind. It has been a source of anxiousness when the Bible tells me to be anxious for nothing. See Phillipians 4:6-7 – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” I teach this, I know this, but I still am struggling with how I am feeling about what was transpiring in my life at the moment. I believe that God could be teaching us several different things in these types of situations.
Why do we get overwhelmed? Well, maybe because we have put ourselves in a position where we have taken on too much. Because of this current situation, I have been prayerfully reassessing to see if there is something that I need to let go of, pass on to someone else, or just give up. Do I have time management issues? As women of God, we can be made to feel like we are not productive as servants if we are not completely pouring ourselves out in service to others. This is not a bad thing as the gospel says that Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45). If this is true for Him, it is certainly true for us, but the other side of this is that we must know our limits and our callings. God does not call us to do it all. This is why He has a body of believers. We are to share in the load, so let us prayerfully reassess. Maybe it is time to let go or restructure some things in our lives. This is true for me at the moment. Another reason that we could be overwhelmed is because the Lord is allowing us to be stretched for a season. This teaches us to fully rely on Him because our own strength is never enough. We have probably all walked through extreme seasons when without His strength, we would have collapsed. It is only by relying wholly on the Lord that we made it through. How would we know just how amazing His strength is if we are not tested? These endurance types of testing increase our devotion and love of God because we have been tried and made it through because of His grace. First and foremost, He sees us, He has us in the palm of His hand, and He will get us through. This sounds so primitively simple because it is. It is the truth!
This week has been a week and a half of everything being difficult – I will not bore you with all the details, but here are a few – no wifi, laptop dies, dealing with several unexpected difficult situations – you know, the things not in your planner. So, last Saturday I was crying out to God and having a pity party. Have you ever done this? Well, that evening the Lord showed up in a real circumstance to minister to me! I knew that He was showing me that He sees me, He has got me, and it is going to be alright! I was so overwhelmed in a good sense that He would reach out to me when I was overwhelmed in a bad sense, had a little pity party, and probably needed an attitude adjustment. God did not take me to task; He loved on me and reassured me. That is who He is. I am not overwhelmed anymore even though I am not caught up yet. All is well because I know who He is. I have His peace that passes all understanding (Phillipians 4:7). Let us as women of God remind each other of who our Father is, who our Savior is, and who the Holy Spirit is so that we will not be overwhelmed in a negative sense. We must build each other up to understand that we are always seen, heard, and loved by our Father.
